Biography:
“Shannon McNally is one of the more interesting singer songwriters to emerge in first decade of the 21st century.” Stereophile
Grounded in her love for J.J. Cale, classic rock and the juncture where blues, soul and country music meet, Shannon McNally has been on the road consistently since she released her acclaimed debut, Jukebox Sparrows in 02 — following it up by the equally lauded Charlie Sexton-produced Geronimo. In more recent years, she’s continued to release spate of truly eclectic and original records, making her “one of the most interesting singer/songwriters to emerge in the first decade of the 21st century,” according to Stereophile, while Paste Magazine noted, “she might not be a household name, but she’s been crafting a terrific blend of soul, roots and Americana for a while now.” McNally, who plays lead guitar backed by terrific bands, has recently been on stages of Jazz Fest, SXSW, Voodoo Festival to name a few, as well as tours with Luther Dickinson, Derek Trucks, JJ Grey of MOFRO and James McMurty. Her most current and visible album release joined her with Luther Dickinson’s group The Wandering along with Amy Lavere, Valerie June and Sharde Thomas for the album Go On Now, You Can’t Stay Here with an accompanying nationwide tour. But she also took a low-key approach to self-releasing an EP of new demo material called Lightwalker. Adding those projects to the Self-produced Coldwater and the avant-garde Western Ballad (Mark Bingham) in the last two years, you could say that she’s permanently in the crux of a prolific phase, with plans for other albums on the near horizon. In 2012, she’s doing some solo dates as well with some shows with her band Smoke Signals, featuring Will Sexton on guitar Susan Holmes on bass and Wallace Lester on drums, with McNally leading on her own guitar.
“…she makes a stronger claim to the idea evoked by the phrase “Cosmic American Music” than anything Gram Parsons recorded.” OFFBEAT
“She’s mysterious one minute, sweet the next – and utterly convincing either way.”
